Fraud victims mob house

JAKARTA: Tired of the slow progress of the Jakarta Police's, a dozen fraud victims on Thursday besieged a house in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, seeking Imansyah Putra, the alleged fraudster, who has gone missing since July.

A relative told the angry mob that the family also did not know the Imansyah's whereabouts.

Imansyah is alleged to have run off with funds totaling Rp 70 billion (US$7.7 million) collected from people investing in cell phone credit vouchers.

The business went well until June, when the investors -- mostly old friends of Imansyah -- upped their investments, and even got others to join in the business.

Imansyah disappeared soon after, and the investors reported him to the police in August.

Police detective chief Sr. Comr. Mathius Salempang assured the victims they the Police where taking the case seriously. -- JP
