Fraud Disguised as Auction Lottery Occurs in West Kalimantan, Victims Lose Rp 2 Billion

Police have secured a woman with the initials DS (27), a resident of Negeri Baru Village, Benua Kayong, Ketapang, West Kalimantan, in connection with an alleged fraud disguised as an auction lottery. The victims’ losses are estimated to reach billions of rupiah. According to detikKalimantan on Tuesday (21/2/2026), one of the victims, Ajeng, stated that the lottery participants came from Ketapang, Pontianak, to Sambas. She said that DS promised lottery members significant profits in a short time. “Our losses are estimated at Rp 2 billion. DS is the lottery administrator and also owns a wedding organiser business,” Ajeng said. Ketapang Police Chief AKBP Muhammad Harris, through Benua Kayong Police Sector Head Ipda Chepry Parahera, confirmed the report. Police once facilitated mediation, but it failed. Chepry stated that the members’ funds were not managed according to the agreement and were allegedly used for the suspect’s personal interests. Members’ contributions varied from Rp 3.5 million to tens of millions of rupiah with promises of profits within 4-5 days. “We urge the public who feel they have become victims to report immediately. Handling will be in accordance with legal procedures,” he said.
