France tightens borders with Spain due to migrant wave

France will tighten controls at the border with Spain amidst a wave of migrants heading towards the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, stated French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez on Friday. Previously, on Thursday, thousands of Moroccan youths gathered at the border between Morocco and Ceuta, with hundreds successfully entering Spanish territory. “In response to the situation observed in the Ceuta enclave, since last night I have issued instructions for immediate strict surveillance at the Spanish border. Additionally, I have also activated the Border Rapid Intervention Force for further inspections,” Nunez stated on X. This Spanish city, located on the North African coast, is facing a sharp increase in the number of migrants attempting to cross from Morocco by swimming and on foot. Authorities have increased the deployment of police, civil guards, and military forces to the city. Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has suggested that Spain should be removed from the Schengen Area in relation to this issue.
