Minister for Investment and Downstreaming and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, welcomed the launch of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council as a strategic move to strengthen economic ties between Indonesia and France, while accelerating the realisation of investments and trade between the two nations.

The high-level business council was launched on 28 May 2026 in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron during President Prabowo’s official state visit to France.

“The establishment of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council marks a significant milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between the two nations. This forum serves not only as a platform for business dialogue but also as a driving force to promote investments, trade, and strategic cooperation that deliver tangible benefits for both countries,” Rosan said in an official statement on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

The business forum brought together 30 industry leaders and prominent companies from Indonesia and France, with a combined market capitalisation of $1.3 trillion or Rp23.171 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 17,820 to USD1). The council is jointly chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Chair of MEDEF International’s France-Indonesia Business Council and CEO of Danone, and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia).

Rosan revealed that the council’s launch also yielded four new commercial agreements worth $3.5 billion or Rp62.38 trillion, focusing on energy security, trade, and defence cooperation.

“French business confidence in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreements reached demonstrate that Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and a more competitive investment climate,” Rosan said.

Trade Target to Triple by 2035

Rosan added that the council will play a key role in overseeing the implementation of previous memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and investment commitments. During President Macron’s state visit to Indonesia in May 2025, 27 MoUs were signed with a total value exceeding $11 billion or Rp196.06 trillion.

“Equally important is ensuring all commitments are realised. Therefore, this forum will serve as a mechanism to identify obstacles, expedite the resolution of issues, and ensure investments proceed optimally,” he added.

The Indonesia-France Business Council aims to triple bilateral trade by 2035. With full support from both governments, Kadin Indonesia and MEDEF International will continue to strengthen the bilateral economic corridor to open new opportunities for collaboration across strategic sectors.

“We are optimistic that Indonesia-France economic relations will grow stronger. Government and business collaboration is key to creating sustainable growth, generating jobs, and enhancing both nations’ competitiveness amid global economic dynamics,” Rosan said.
