FPTI Secretary-General: National Training Camp Unaffected by Hendra Basir's Suspension
The case is being handled by the relevant authorities, and in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games, we are working hard to ensure that the issue does not impact the team or the athletes.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Secretary-General of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (PP FPTI), Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, stated that the national training camp for the rock climbing team has not been disrupted by the suspension of head coach Hendra Basir, who is suspected of sexual harassment against an athlete.
He explained that Hendra’s term was also due to end on 28 February 2026, so whatever the findings of the fact-finding team (TPF) regarding the case, he would no longer be the head coach in the future.
“The case is being handled by the relevant authorities, and in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games, we are working hard to ensure that the issue does not impact the team or the athletes,” he said when contacted from Jakarta on Tuesday.
Therefore, it is ensured that there will be no significant disruption in the training camp process up to this point, as the system is running as usual.
“On 3 March, the athletes in the national training camp will be under the new coaching team and will begin training to prepare for the 2026 Asian Games Qualifiers,” said the FPTI Secretary-General.
Pristiawan stated that he is personally focused on consolidating the internal team.
Meanwhile, the resolution of the legal issues involving Hendra Basir will be carried out by the TPF and Harry Pontoh, as the Head of the Organisation and Legal Division.
Based on the report in the FPTI’s decision letter, it is stated that eight athletes filed complaints to the Chairman of the PP FPTI, Yenny Wahid.
The eight athletes reported that they had experienced unpleasant treatment in the form of sexual harassment and physical violence.
The incident occurred on 28 January 2026. The FPTI responded by issuing a decision to temporarily suspend Hendra Basir as head coach.
This was done to ensure the protection of the athletes and to maintain the objectivity of the investigation process.
