In accordance with the organisation’s decision letter, Hendra Basir has been temporarily suspended pending a decision from the fact-finding team that has been established. Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Secretary-General of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, stated that the federation has formed a fact-finding team regarding the suspension of head coach Hendra Basir, following allegations of sexual harassment against athletes. “In accordance with the organisation’s decision letter, Hendra Basir has been temporarily suspended pending a decision from the fact-finding team that has been established,” he said when contacted from Jakarta on Tuesday. Wahyu Pristiawan explained that from the outset, the federation has been committed to not tolerating any issues related to violence against women, children, and sexual harassment, so the suspension was imposed while awaiting the results of further investigations from the fact-finding team formed by FPTI Chairman Yenny Wahid. This is because, according to the latest decision letter of the Indonesian rock climbing team, the coach’s name is no longer listed as a coach. Pristiawan stated that information about the suspension appeared in the media after everything had been done by the FPTI, including forming the fact-finding team. Prior to that, the FPTI Chairman and the team had also conducted a selection process for the coaching staff for the next period. “The fact-finding team is also continuing to coordinate with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection regarding this issue. As for the legal process with the authorities (police), I cannot comment on whether it has started or not, because this is also a sensitive case for the victims, who are athletes,” he said. The Secretary-General added that all internal investigation processes will be carried out objectively, even though the person in question has made many contributions to Indonesia in terms of achievements. Nevertheless, he expressed regret that such an alleged incident could occur within the FPTI. Based on the report in the FPTI’s decision letter, it is stated that eight athletes filed complaints to Chairman Yenny Wahid. The eight athletes reported that they had experienced unpleasant treatment in the form of sexual harassment and physical violence. The incident occurred on 28 January 2026. The FPTI responded by issuing a decision to temporarily suspend Hendra Basir as head coach. This was done to ensure the protection of the athletes and to maintain the objectivity of the examination process.
