FPPJ Discusses Strengthening Youth Role in 'Jaga Jakarta' Programme

The Jakarta Youth Care Forum (FPPJ) held a public discussion addressing the strengthening of youth roles in the Jaga Jakarta programme. The programme was initiated by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno, supported by Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Edi Suheri and Jaya Military Command Commander Lieutenant General Deddy Suryadi, to keep the Jakarta region conducive. “The Jaga Jakarta movement is a form of real commitment by youth in overseeing the development of an inclusive and sustainable capital city,” said FPPJ General Chairman Endriansyah during the public discussion held in Jakarta on Wednesday. He asserted that a resilient Jakarta belongs to everyone and that FPPJ is committed to being at the forefront of building synergy between the government, community, and youth. Endriansyah stated that Jakarta’s transition towards a global city requires not only infrastructure development and increased economic competitiveness, but also strengthened early vigilance to safeguard Jakarta and active public participation, particularly from the younger generation. As a follow-up to the discussion, he said FPPJ recommends the establishment of Youth Information Posts, an Anti-Hoax Movement, and a Jaga Jakarta Synergy Forum. According to him, these three platforms are expected to become spaces for collaboration and continuous evaluation of various regional issues in Jakarta. “Through the synergy of government, community, and youth, FPPJ is optimistic that Jakarta can realise its vision as a global city that is advanced, safe, inclusive, and remains deeply rooted in local cultural values towards its five-century anniversary in 2027,” he said. During the discussion, Special Staff to the DKI Jakarta Governor for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, emphasised that Jakarta needs to learn from the best practices of world cities without losing its identity and cultural character. “Jakarta must be able to grow into a modern global city while still maintaining the cultural values that form its identity,” he said. Furthermore, DKI Jakarta DPRD Deputy Chair Rany Mauliani explained that global city status demands a more mature readiness from the community. “Youth must take on the role of agents of change as well as guardians of social harmony amidst the increasingly dynamic development of the city,” she said. Echoing this, Head of the DKI Jakarta National Unity and Political Agency, Matsani, outlined various government efforts to maintain social stability through participatory programmes. “One of them is through Ngopi Cetar, which serves as a platform for absorbing community aspirations to be formulated into policy recommendations,” he said. The public discussion carried the theme “Jakarta as a Global and Cultured City: The Role of Early Vigilance in the Spirit of Jaga Jakarta”. The forum brought together a number of stakeholders from government, legislative, military, and community organisations to discuss strategies for maintaining social stability amidst Jakarta’s transformation into a global city.
