Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Youth Care Forum (FPPJ) has called on the Jakarta provincial government and security personnel to take firm action against the resurgence of illegal drug trafficking that has become increasingly widespread in recent times.

“We demand that the trafficking of hard drugs be dealt with severely,” said FPPJ chairman Endriansyah in Jakarta on Monday during a meeting with media representatives in the spirit of Ramadhan.

According to him, the recent resurgence in illegal drug trafficking must be addressed with firm measures to protect young people in Jakarta from drug abuse.

He also urged security authorities to take strict action against drug dealers who pose a danger to young people.

Endriansyah, commonly known as Rian, also called on both the government and media to continue monitoring all issues in Jakarta to collectively oversee government policy.

According to him, the media plays an important role as a pillar of democracy that shapes public perceptions of various issues, including social movements and youth initiatives in Jakarta.

He believed that good relations with the media go beyond merely conveying information but also form part of building broader communication with the public.

Rian hoped that the media could provide insights on the current state of youth affairs in Jakarta and issues that deserve greater attention.

He stressed that youth development cannot be built by youth organisations alone but requires the media’s role in elevating ideas, stories and hopes so they reach the wider public.

“We believe that narratives about young people cannot be built by youth organisations alone. The media’s role is needed to raise stories, ideas and hopes so they reach the public,” he said.
