FPI Delivers Habib Rizieq's Mandate to Prabowo Regarding the Death of Ali Khamenei

Jakarta — The Islamic Defender Front (FPI) has asked President Prabowo Subianto to publicly extend condolences for the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Secretary of the FPI’s Syura Council Habib Hanif Alatas said the request is an order from former FPI Grand Imam Habib Rizieq Shihab conveyed through him.

‘We asked just now, a mandate from Habib Rizieq, because Iran is also a friendly country. We ask the President not only to dispatch the Foreign Minister to convey condolences, but we ask that the President convey condolences publicly,’ Hanif said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday 5 March 2026.

He spoke after attending a Ramadan iftar with President Prabowo and several ulama, Islamic community organisations, and leaders of pesantren at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday night, 5 March 2026.

According to him, Iran is a friendly country to Indonesia and thus deserves support, especially when the country is facing attacks on its sovereignty.

‘It is being attacked; its sovereignty is being attacked just as we do not want any colonisation on earth. I think Iran’s stance in defending its sovereignty needs to be supported,’ he said.

During the occasion, FPI also asked Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP). Hanif said the request had been formally conveyed in a letter entrusted to one of the ministers to be given to President Prabowo.

‘We have delivered the letter, entrusted via one of the ministers, and we have told the President that we still want Indonesia to withdraw from BoP. Not because we don’t trust the President, but because we don’t trust America, nor Israel,’ he said.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sugiono formally voiced Indonesia’s condolences for the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an attack by the United States-Israel.

That letter was delivered by Sugiono to Iran’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi during their meeting in Jakarta.
