A fire broke out at the Amerta Husadha Hospital construction project on Jalan Raya Sesetan, Denpasar, on Wednesday (29/7/2026) afternoon. There were no fatalities or injuries, but four workers were trapped and a firefighter required assistance.

The fire occurred on the sixth floor of the hospital project at 10.30 WITA. Four employees and construction workers were trapped, and two of them briefly lost consciousness before being evacuated. They are believed to have fainted due to thick smoke causing breathing difficulties in the enclosed space.

Additionally, one firefighter needed help after being exposed to the smoke. The victims were rushed to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for medical treatment.

‘The smoke was thick and there were four people trapped upstairs, two were unconscious, they have been taken to hospital,’ said Wayan Karma, Head of the Firefighting and Rescue Division at the Denpasar City Fire and Rescue Service, when met at the location.

The firefighting operation lasted about an hour and involved a number of vehicles. Ten fire engines and four rescue vehicles were deployed, along with a blower unit to extract the smoke.

However, the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation by the relevant authorities. ‘Because the fire occurred in the management room, we cannot yet provide information on the cause,’ he said.

Karma stated that there were no significant obstacles during the firefighting operation and that the fire had been completely dealt with. Meanwhile, traffic on Jalan Raya Sesetan, which had been congested, gradually returned to normal after the operation concluded.
