Four Workers Die at Simatupang Building Project, Suspected Gas Poisoning
JAKARTA - Four male workers died at a building project site on Jalan TB Simatupang, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (3/4/2026). The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit (Kasat Reskrim) of the South Jakarta Police, AKBP Mohamad Iskandarsyah, stated that the four bodies are currently undergoing autopsy. “That’s correct, there was a discovery of bodies this afternoon. They are still being autopsied,” Iskandar told Kompas.com on Friday. “The victims are suspected of having inhaled gas emanating from the location,” said Nurma in her statement on Friday. Nurma explained that the incident started when one worker fell into the manhole while dismantling its cover. One of his colleagues tried to help and ended up falling in as well. “During the evacuation of the victim, witnesses felt heat and stuffiness around the manhole,” she said. After that, DPA called an ambulance to evacuate the victims. The four victims were rushed to Pasar Rebo Hospital and were pronounced dead. In addition, three other victims suffered from shortness of breath and are undergoing further treatment.
