Four Victims of KMP Putri Yasmin Still Missing, SAR Expands Search to South of Bali

The joint SAR team has expanded the search to the south of Bali Island after four victims of the Motorised Ferry (KMP) Putri Yasmin remained missing. The search was conducted by air and sea, but as of Friday afternoon (14/8/2026), there were no signs of the victims’ whereabouts. Mataram SAR Chief Muhammad Hariyadi stated that the aerial search was carried out using a Finns SGi Air Bali helicopter. The helicopter flew 30.9 Nautical Miles (NM) south of Bali Island, then combed an area of 100 square NM for approximately two hours. Despite the expanded search area, the four victims—Yasir Arafat, Selvina Rambu Mayi, I Made Sutarjana, and Slamet Riyanto—have yet to be found. “We deployed one helicopter, covering 100 square NM. It conducted a search for approximately two hours. No signs of the victims were found around the location south of Bali Island,” Hariyadi said on Friday. In addition to the aerial search, the SAR team deployed two vessels to comb the waters southwest of the initial location where KMP Putri Yasmin caught fire. The KN 220 SAR Mataram vessel searched an area of 60 NM, while the Navy Ship (KAL) Belongas combed an area of 48 NM. “However, by 15.00 Wita, both vessels returned to Lembar without finding any signs of the vessel or the victims,” Hariyadi added. Not only the four victims, but the wreckage of the burnt KMP Putri Yasmin has also not been detected by the SAR team. The vessel previously caught fire in the waters off Sekotong, West Lombok. Hariyadi said the search operation was temporarily suspended on Friday afternoon. The search will resume on Saturday (15/8/2026) starting at 07.00 Wita. “The search will continue tomorrow starting at 07.00 Wita,” he concluded. Previously, KMP Putri Yasmin caught fire while crossing the waters off Sekotong Beach, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), in the early hours of Wednesday (12/8/2026). Information about the incident was received by the Mataram SAR Office from the Captain of Rescue Boat (RB) 220 Mataram, Nurdin, at 04.39 Wita. A 50-second video received by detikBali showed plumes of smoke causing panic among the passengers. All passengers were seen wearing life jackets. A total of 212 victims were evacuated to Lembar Port and Padangbai, Karangasem, Bali. Of that number, one person was reported dead.
