Four Victims Found Within KM Virgo Hull, 71 Still Missing

The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team has found four deceased victims around the hull of the KM Virgo Transport 8. Officers are still searching for 71 people missing in the incident.

“On this 14th day, we have successfully evacuated 4 victims from inside the ship’s hull,” stated the Director of Operations of Basarnas RI, Rear Admiral Yudhi Bramantyo Nur Sasongko, as reported by detikKalimantan on Saturday (26/09/2026).

Yudhi mentioned that underwater diving operations were conducted from the morning until 16:30 WITA. The four victims were discovered as a result of these diving efforts. To date, a total of 172 victims have been evacuated, with 108 survivors, 64 confirmed dead, and 71 still being searched for.

“A total of 172 victims have been successfully evacuated, while 71 people remain missing. That is the update we are providing,” concluded Bramantyo.

It is noted that since the first day of the search on Sunday (13/09), the joint SAR team has continuously evacuated hundreds of people through various SAR operations.

The search has now entered its third week, with an extension granted until 3 October. The joint SAR team aims to complete the search for all victims before the SAR operation concludes.
