Four TNI Soldiers Named as Suspects in Acid Attack on Kontras Activist Andrie Yunus

The case of the acid attack on human rights activist Andrie Yunus has entered a crucial phase following the Indonesian National Army (TNI) acknowledging the involvement of its internal apparatus. TNI’s Commander of the Central Military Police (Danpuspom), Yusri Nuryanto, revealed that four soldiers have been named as suspects and are now under military handling. “I have received four individuals suspected of assaulting Andrie Yunus,” Yusri stated during a press conference at TNI headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3). The four soldiers have been secured and detained at Pomdam Jaya to undergo legal proceedings. However, TNI has yet to disclose the specific roles of each suspect or the motive behind the attack. “We are still investigating the motive,” Yusri said. The acid pouring incident occurred on Thursday night (12/3) in Central Jakarta, after Andrie attended a discussion. KontraS Coordinator, Dimas Bagus Arya, stated that the victim was attacked by unidentified individuals and suffered severe injuries. “The victim sustained serious injuries across nearly his entire body, particularly on his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes,” he explained. As a result of the attack, Andrie was rushed to hospital with burns covering approximately 24%.
