Four TNI Soldiers Do Not Challenge Charges in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
JAKARTA - Four defendants in the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, did not file exceptions to the charges read out at the Jakarta Military Court on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
The four defendants are members of TNI’s BAIS, namely Sergeant Edi Sudarko, Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetia, and Lieutenant Sami Lakka.
“Essentially, regarding the chronological sequence of events in the indictment that does not match the actual incident, you can refute it later in the form of an exception. Please consult with your legal counsel. Whether to file an exception or not, you are permitted to confer,” said the Chief Judge of the Panel, Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday.
“The defendants have understood and comprehended, so we will not file an exception and we will proceed with the trial, thank you, Your Honours,” said the Defendants’ Legal Counsel.
Because the defendants did not file exceptions, the trial will proceed to the proof stage or witness examination on 6 May 2026.
“So, the prosecutor, since the defence did not file an exception, for the next hearing, you can call these eight witnesses,” he explained.
Fredy also requested that the Jakarta Military Prosecutor II-07 present the victim in the trial as a witness, because Andrie’s name was not listed in the indictment as a victim witness.
“I ask the prosecutors, where is the victim? Why is no statement being taken? Yet that is the substance of this case. We need to determine whether this is serious injury, minor injury, or what kind of injury,” asked Fredy Ferdian.
At that time, the Prosecutor explained that the victim had already been summoned to give a statement.
However, due to his health condition not yet improving, the victim could not yet provide a statement.
“If he can give testimony, even accompanied by LPSK or a doctor, there is no problem. If not, I have the authority to summon him,” said the Judge.
“Accompanied by LPSK during the trial. Even if he cannot attend physically, if he cannot attend physically, he can attend via videoconference, using Zoom, no problem, and that will be accommodated,” the Judge stated.
Previously, four TNI personnel were charged with throwing acid at KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (12/3/2026).
The motive was resentment towards Andrie Yunus for giving instructions at the Fairmont Jakarta hotel on 16 March 2025.
“The defendants considered that Andrie Yunus had insulted the TNI institution and even trampled on the TNI institution,” said Military Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Corps Hukum (Chk) TNI Muhammad Iswadi in the hearing at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday.
The four defendants are charged with multiple articles, namely Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code as the primary charge, Article 468 paragraph (1) as subsidiary, and Articles 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) as further subsidiary, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023.
