A total of four Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel faced an indictment-reading hearing relating to the caustic liquid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, at Military Court II-08 Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May). The four defendants were Sersan Dua Edi Sudarko, Letnan Satu (Lettu) Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Kapten Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and Lettu Sami Lakka. According to the Case Information Tracking System (SIPP) of Military Court II-08 Jakarta, the hearing was held in the Garuda courtroom, presided over by Chief Judge Colonel of the Legal Corps (Chk) Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto. In the case, the four TNI personnel were charged with dousing Andrie with caustic liquid with the aim of giving him a lesson and an ‘intimidating effect’ to deter him from defaming the TNI. Another conduct by Andrie deemed to have offended the TNI occurred on 16 March 2025 when KontraS activist Andrie Yunus forcibly entered and interrupted a meeting on revising the TNI Law in Jakarta. The other actions that angered the defendants included Andrie suing the TNI at the Constitutional Court (MK), accusing the TNI of intimidation or terrorism at the KontraS office, and becoming the mastermind or actor behind the late August 2025 riots, as well as actively promoting an anti-militarist narrative. Therefore, the acts by the four personnel, who had planned to carry out the attack, knew that the chemical could cause serious burns, were deemed inappropriate for TNI members. The four defendants face penalties under Article 469(1) or Article 468(1) or Article 467(1) in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of the National Penal Code (KUHP).
