Jakarta (ANTARA) - Four personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) faced an indictment hearing regarding allegations of assault on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, at the Jakarta Military Court II-08, on Wednesday.

The four defendants are Sergeant Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant (Lt) Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and Lieutenant (Lt) Sami Lakka.

According to the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the Jakarta Military Court II-08, the hearing was held in the Garuda courtroom, presided over by Chief Judge Colonel of the Legal Corps (Chk) Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto.

In the case, the four TNI personnel are charged with dousing Andrie with a caustic liquid with the aim of teaching him a lesson and producing a “deterrent effect” to prevent him from discrediting the TNI.

The behaviour of Andrie that the defendants viewed as disrespectful to the TNI reportedly occurred on 16 March 2025 when the activist from the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) forced entry and interrupted proceedings during a meeting on revisions to the TNI Law in Jakarta.

Another action that angered the defendants was Andrie’s challenge to the TNI Law at the Constitutional Court (MK), accusing the TNI of intimidating or threatening KontraS’ office, and being the mastermind or actor behind the riots of late August 2025, as well as aggressively pushing an anti-militarism narrative.

Thus, the actions of the four TNI personnel, who planned to spray Andrie with the caustic liquid, knowing that the chemical could cause severe burns, are considered not befitting of a TNI member.

For their actions, the four defendants face penalties under Article 469(1) or Article 468(1) or Article 467(1) in conjunction with Article 2, and Article 20 paragraph C of the National Penal Code (KUHP).
