Four TNI BAIS Members Involved in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus, Police to Coordinate

Jakarta - TNI headquarters has revealed that four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency are suspected of involvement in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS. In response to the TNI statement, Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri stated that his side would first coordinate regarding further handling. “I haven’t coordinated at all yet; we will report to the leadership. We will coordinate first,” Asep said during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Wednesday (18/3/2026). However, the initials of the perpetrators mentioned differ from those provided by the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Police Iman Imanudin. Based on police investigations, the two suspected executors are initialled BHC and MAK. The police will synchronise the investigation data obtained with TNI headquarters. During the press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Kompas.com also asked about the whereabouts of the perpetrators and their status. Journalists also inquired about the involvement of police or civilians outside law enforcement in this incident. However, the police have not provided further information. KontraS Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred at 23:37 WIB when Andrie Yunus was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta. While passing the location, two perpetrators riding a motorcycle suspected to be a Honda Beat model from 2016 to 2021 approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge). The first perpetrator, acting as the driver, was wearing a white-blue combination T-shirt, dark trousers suspected to be jeans material, and a black helmet. Meanwhile, the second perpetrator sitting at the back was wearing a black face covering or mask resembling a buff that covered half of the face, a dark blue T-shirt, and long blue trousers folded short, suspected to be jeans material. One of the perpetrators then splashed acid towards the victim, hitting parts of the victim’s body. Andrie suffered burns to his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes.
