Four TNI BAIS Members Charged with Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus Face 2.5-Year Prison Sentence

The fate of four members of the Indonesian Military Intelligence Agency (BAIS) TNI, who are defendants in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, has begun to reach a resolution. During a hearing at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, the four soldiers were faced with a prison sentence demand of two years and six months.

The indictment was read by the Military Auditor II-07 Jakarta against the four defendants: Sergeant Edi Sudarko, Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo, and Lieutenant Sami Lakka. “We request the Military Court II-08 Jakarta to impose criminal penalties upon the defendants,” stated the Military Auditor II-07 Jakarta.

During the trial, several considerations forming the basis of the prosecution’s demand were revealed. The prosecutor assessed that the defendants’ actions were not only contrary to the Sapta Marga, the Soldier’s Oath, and the Eight Mandatory Duties of the TNI, but also tarnished the reputation of the TNI institution. Furthermore, the acid attack carried out by the defendants was deemed to have caused severe injuries to the victim.

However, there were several mitigating factors. The defendants were noted to have no prior criminal records. They were also judged to have been honest and transparent throughout the trial process. Additionally, the four defendants expressed regret for their actions and promised not to repeat similar conduct.

Previously, the South Jakarta District Court partially granted a pretrial motion filed by Andrie Yunus, an activist from the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), regarding the alleged assault. “Granting the applicant’s motion in part,” stated the Chief Judge of the South Jakarta District Court, Suparna, during the pretrial hearing on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. The judge ruled that the applicant possessed the legal standing to file the pretrial motion and ordered the respondent to proceed with the legal process regarding police report number LP/A/222/III/2026/Satreskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya, dated 13 March 2026.
