Four tested HIV positive

AMBON, Maluku: Local health officials recently registered four Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive people, Antara reported yesterday.

Dr. D. Anatototy said two of them were waitresses in a local bar while the other two were Thai fishermen working for a foreign fishing company whose head office is in Tual regency. He said the two women were probably infected through sexual contact with the fishermen.

The two women were sent back to their hometown in East Java last week, he said.

The number of people with HIV and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is increasing. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health reported that the total number of people with the condition was 390, an increase of 10 over the past month. (swe)
