Four teenagers arrested for rape, two others at large

JAKARTA (JP): Police have arrested four of the six teenagers believed to have raped a girl on Thursday morning in an empty house on Jl. Hankam in Ragunan South Jakarta.

"The other two young fugitives, whose identities are known, are still at large," head of the City Police Operation Center for Command and Control Col. Muhantojo said yesterday.

The four suspects were arrested several hours after the incident and were identified as Ari Riosembodo, 15, Rudi Frianto, 17, Dedy Supriadi, 16, and Johan Sigit, 17. They were picked-up Thursday evening at different places.

The two other suspects were identified as Wisnu Doyoprakoso and Kukuh.

Three suspects are students at different SMAs (senior high schools). The fourth, Ari, is an SMP (junior high school) student.

The victim was identified as LK, 18, a resident of Menteng Dalam.

Sources at the South Jakarta police said that LK stopped her studies after being seriously injured when she was still an SMP student.

Her family could not be reached for comment.

Scenario

South Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. SY Wenas told reporters that Ari and a friend called Simon, 15, met LK at the Robinson shopping center in Pasar Minggu at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

After introducing themselves, Ari invited LK to come to his house on Jl. Hankam for an unknown reason. On the way to the house, which was empty because Ari's family were out, Simon left, saying that he wanted to go home to prepare for school, Wenas said.

When Ari and LK entered the house, Ari's friends -- Dedy, Rudi, Johan, Kukuh and Wisnu -- were inside. Ari then asked LK to go into his bedroom where he started seducing her, related Wenas.

A copy of the questioning session report seen by The Jakarta Post stated that Ari asked LK to exchange her T-shirt with his.

Just as he attempted to have sex with LK, his friend Dedi climbed into the room through a window and told Ari to continue, according to the copy.

Dedi and the rest took turns after Ari.

Ari's sister arrived home at noon, making the group of juveniles run into the living room and pretend nothing was happening, Wenas said.

The teenagers then asked LK to leave the house.

In the evening, LK reported the case to her father who immediately reported the case to the South Jakarta police.

At first, Wenas said, LK couldn't find Ari's house. The detectives then helped her remember the day step by step.

It remains unclear if LK has serious memory problems. A source also said that Ari was believed to have drugged LK's drink.

Wenas refused to comment on the issue, saying that questioning of the suspects, currently being detained at the city police headquarters, has not finished.

The maximum jail term for having sex with a girl who can't defend herself is seven years.

Meanwhile, city police announced yesterday that they have detained no one in connection with the brutal rape of a mother and her two teenage daughters in Bekasi.

City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Dibyo Widodo said that the Bekasi police have only questioned several people in order to collect as much data as possible.

Yesterday a number of local newspapers reported that suspects had been detained.

Bekasi Police Chief Lt. Col. Hari Pribadi was perplexed about the news reports.

"We still have no one in custody," he stressed.

According to Muhantojo, city police have recorded an average of 7.5 rape cases a month since April this year.

This month, at least six cases have been recorded, compared to eight cases in the previous month, he said. (bsr)
