Police have transferred four suspects and evidence related to an alleged blasphemy criminal offence at a music festival in Ancol to the North Jakarta District Attorney’s Office (Kejari Jakut). The four suspects are set to face trial shortly.

Investigators from the Sub-directorate of Political and Security Crimes of the Metro Jaya Regional Police transferred the four suspects, identified by the initials AK, RE, SM, and IR, on Wednesday (30/9). The second stage of the handover was conducted after the case files were declared complete (P-21) by the public prosecutor on Tuesday (22/9).

“After the case files were declared complete or P-21, investigators handed over the suspects along with the evidence to the North Jakarta District Attorney’s Office. Subsequently, the legal process falls under the authority of the public prosecutor in accordance with applicable regulations,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, as reported by Antara on Friday (2/10/2026).

The case originated from an incident at a booth during ‘The Sound Project’ music festival in Ancol, North Jakarta, on 9 August 2026. At the time, there was an activity linking the memorisation of Al-Qur’an surahs with the provision of alcoholic beverages as prizes to festival attendees.

Recordings of the incident went viral on social media, leading to a report being filed with the police. Following investigations, four individuals were named as suspects and are facing charges under Article 300 and/or Article 301 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).

Following the second stage of the handover, the public prosecutor proceeded with the detention of the suspects, who have been placed separately in the Cipinang and Pondok Bambu detention centres.

The Metro Jaya Regional Police have urged the public to respect the ongoing legal process, uphold the presumption of innocence, and refrain from spreading unverified information or sensitive content that could potentially cause public unrest.

The Metro Jaya Regional Police identified four suspects in the alleged blasphemy case involving an alcohol booth at The Sounds Project music festival in Eco Park Ancol, North Jakarta. The Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, confirmed that of the four suspects—initialled RES, AK, I, and M—two have already been arrested and detained.

“Based on the investigation series and the evidence obtained, investigators have named four suspects. Suspects RES and AK were arrested on Wednesday (12/8) and are being held for 20 days at the Metro Jaya Regional Police detention centre starting from today,” said Iman in Jakarta on Thursday (13/8).
