Four Suspects in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist Scattered Across Kalibata to Bogor
Police have revealed that four suspected perpetrators of an acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, dispersed across the Kalibata and Bogor regions. The four suspects scattered using two motorcycles.
“Allegedly four suspects using two motorcycles waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini, then followed the victim moving towards Jalan Diponegoro and subsequently towards Jalan Salemba 1,” said Kombes Iman Imanuddin, head of the Criminal Investigation Division of Metro Jaya Police.
The acid attack occurred on Jalan Salemba 1, specifically at the intersection of Jalan Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday 12 March at 20:37 WIB. Police used CCTV footage in their investigation of the case.
“We are grateful to have obtained CCTV footage with sufficiently clear images, which has greatly assisted our investigation and prosecution process,” he said.
From police’s CCTV analysis, after the incident, the suspected perpetrators scattered in two motorcycles heading in different directions. Each motorcycle carried two suspects.
Kombes Imanuddin explained that one motorcycle carrying suspects 1 and 2 fled by driving against traffic on Jalan Salemba towards Pasar Senen. The perpetrators then went to Jalan Kramat Raya, Tugu Tani, towards Stasiun Gondang Dia and subsequently towards South Jakarta.
“Then one vehicle carrying suspects 3 and 4, from the incident location did not change direction but went straight towards Jalan Pramuka Sari 2, subsequently towards Matraman, then was monitored by CCTV heading towards Jatinegara, and subsequently to Jalan Otto Iskandar Dinata East Jakarta,” he said.
Imanuddin added that the CCTV footage was then combined with digital processing of communication devices. It was known that one perpetrator changed clothes before continuing his escape.
“Communication network analysis indicated that the perpetrators subsequently scattered to the Kalibata, Ragunan and Bogor regions,” he said.
