Four Suspects Hunted After Molotov Cocktail Thrown at Mother with Child in Koja
Police are investigating the throwing of a Molotov cocktail at a mother who was carrying her child on a motorcycle in Koja, North Jakarta. Police suspect there were four perpetrators. “From CCTV footage, the perpetrators are suspected to number around four people,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Tuesday (23/6/2026). Budi stated that his party has directed the victim to file a report. Police have also secured evidence in the form of CCTV recordings and fragments of the Molotov bottle. “Currently, the case is still under investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators, including probing the motive for the incident,” he said.
The Molotov cocktail attack occurred at 09.00 WIB on Jalan Mandiri II, Rawa Badak Selatan Village, Koja District, North Jakarta. That morning, the victim was riding a motorcycle heading to the market. Police suspect the victim struck by the Molotov cocktail was a case of mistaken target. The perpetrator was actually targeting the uncle of his ex-wife. However, the victim happened to be passing by the location. “It was not throwing at the mother; the mother was passing by unintentionally. (The perpetrator) threw it at the uncle of the perpetrator’s ex-wife’s partner, but missed,” said Koja Police Chief, Police Superintendent Andry Suharto, to reporters on Tuesday (23/6). At the same time, the victim, who was carrying her child, was passing through the location on Jalan Mandiri II, Koja, North Jakarta. The Molotov cocktail then fell and hit the motorcycle’s dashboard. According to Andry, the victim did not know why she was targeted by the Molotov. “(The Molotov) fell on the road and caught fire, and the motorcycle (the victim) passed by, was startled, and fell,” he said.
