CCTV footage showing an attempted theft in Sawangan Jati, Depok, West Java, has gone viral on social media. A local resident successfully foiled the burglary.

From the video, four perpetrators can be seen. Two suspects were still inside the house while residents appeared to be confronting the two suspects outside. A commotion ensued between one resident and the two suspects. The two suspects still inside the house then came out, and all four eventually fled the scene.

The incident occurred on Friday (5 June 2026) at 2.17 p.m. Western Indonesia Time in Gang Modis, Sawangan, Depok. Initially, Witness 1 and Witness 2 were working next to the complainant’s house. Witness 1 then received a call from the complainant’s domestic helper. The helper asked the witnesses to come to the complainant’s house because CCTV monitoring showed unknown individuals in front of the house.

“Witness 1 and Witness 2 then approached the two reported individuals in front of the complainant’s house and questioned their intentions,” said AKP Hendra, Head of Public Relations for the Depok Metro Police, in a statement on Tuesday (9 June).

The witnesses saw that a window of the complainant’s house was open. The witnesses spontaneously shouted ‘thief’, leading to stone-throwing between the reported individuals and the witnesses. “Then, from inside the complainant’s house, two other reported individuals came out, one carrying a long screwdriver and the other with his right hand behind his waist. Seeing this, the witnesses kept their distance from the reported individuals,” he stated.

The perpetrators then fled using two motorcycles. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered material losses from a damaged smart door lock worth approximately Rp 4 million. The victim reported the incident to the Bojongsari Police Sector for further investigation. Police have examined the crime scene for further inquiry.
