Four Suspects Allegedly Involved in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus
Jakarta — The Head of the General Criminal Investigation Division of Jakarta Metro Police, Brigadier Kombes Iman Imanudin, has stated that an estimated four perpetrators were involved in the acid attack against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
Previously, reports indicated that two perpetrators on a single motorcycle were responsible for the incident.
The involvement of the four perpetrators was discovered through surveillance camera (CCTV) footage traced along the route, following the discovery of a helmet belonging to one of the perpetrators.
“An estimated four suspects allegedly used two motorcycles and were waiting for the victim in front of the KFC at Cikini,” Iman explained during a press conference on Monday 16 March 2026.
The group then proceeded towards the YLBHI office on Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro. They followed Andrie who had just finished attending an event there.
They carried out their attack near Talang Bridge I on Jalan Salemba I.
One perpetrator was captured on CCTV pouring the caustic liquid on the victim.
A motorcycle rider who was not visible was allegedly monitoring the surrounding conditions.
“Perhaps one was acting as lookout. But only one actually poured the acid,” Iman said.
Subsequently, one motorcycle headed towards Jatinegara in East Jakarta, whilst the other motorcycle headed towards Kalibata in South Jakarta.
At the location, two perpetrators riding an allegedly Honda Beat motorcycle from 2016 to 2021 approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).
The first perpetrator, acting as the rider, wore a white-blue combination shirt, dark trousers allegedly made of denim, and a black helmet.
The second perpetrator, seated behind, wore a face covering or black buff-style mask that covered half of the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue long trousers folded short and allegedly made of denim.
One of the perpetrators then poured acid towards the victim, striking parts of the victim’s body.
Andrie sustained burn injuries to his right and left hands, face, chest and eyes.
