Police have stated that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was allegedly carried out by four individuals.

This determination is based on analysis of 86 CCTV cameras and 2,610 videos with a combined duration of 10,320 minutes conducted by police during the investigation.

Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Director of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, stated that the CCTV footage shows the four alleged perpetrators waiting for the victim in front of KFC Cikini in Central Jakarta.

“Allegedly four suspects using two motorcycles waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini,” Iman said during a press conference on Monday (16 March).

From that location, the perpetrators then followed the victim towards Jalan Diponegoro, continuing to Jalan Salemba 1, where the acid attack on the victim took place.

“They then followed the victim moving towards Jalan Diponegoro and subsequently towards Jalan Salemba 1,” Iman said.

According to Iman, the police are continuing their investigation and gathering evidence to uncover this case.

Previously, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus fell victim to an acid attack in the Central Jakarta area on Thursday evening (12 March).

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office at approximately 23:00 WIB.

“He was attacked with an acid spray by an unknown person which resulted in serious injuries across his body, particularly on both hands, face, chest and eyes,” he said in a written statement on Friday (13 March).

Following the incident, Andrie was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. From examination results, Andrie sustained burns covering 24 per cent of his body.

Dimas also disclosed the characteristics of the first suspected perpetrator, who was wearing a white and blue combination t-shirt, dark trousers allegedly jeans, and a black helmet.

The second perpetrator, the passenger, was reportedly wearing a face covering or mask resembling a black balaclava covering half the face, a dark blue t-shirt, and blue trousers folded to appear shorter and allegedly made of denim material.
