Four student hunger strikers in coma

SURABAYA: At least four of 13 students on a four-day hunger strike at Trunojoyo University (Unijoyo) on Madura island, protesting a planned nuclear power plant, lost consciousness on Monday.

East Java's Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) chairman Syafrudin Budiman, who visited them, said others in the group would do likewise in the next few days.

The four included a female student, who along with the 12 other strikers started the protest on April 22 by abstaining from all food, but making an exception with tea. They have refused medical treatment as well. --JP
