Four Still Trapped After Grand Polonia Medan Explosion, Two Evacuated

Police have stated that six people were believed to be trapped inside a luxury house at the site of an explosion in the Grand Polonia housing complex in Medan, North Sumatra. Two of them have been evacuated. “Currently, the data we have obtained indicates that six people were living inside. Of those six, a father was successfully evacuated, and a toddler is currently being treated at a hospital,” said Medan Police Chief Commissioner Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak on Monday (20/7/2026). Meanwhile, four other individuals are still thought to be inside the house. Police and other parties are continuing efforts to evacuate the victims. “From the data we have gathered, among the survivors is the elderly father of the homeowner, while the homeowner’s wife remains inside. There are also two or three domestic workers. The information suggests there are three domestic workers, but we want to confirm this,” Calvijn added. So far, Calvijn said, his party has not received information about any victims other than those inside the house numbered 3B. The explosion occurred around 15:30 WIB. Police are currently investigating the blast, but the initial suspicion is that it was caused by a buried gas pipe leak.
