Four river embankments in Depok City, West Java, have collapsed. Extreme heavy rain triggered the collapse and breaching of the four river embankments.

The Head of the Disaster Mitigation Division of the Depok City Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP), Deni Romulo Hutauruk, stated that the breaching of the four river embankments in Depok City due to heavy rain caused flooding in several areas on Saturday (21/3/2026).

The four collapsed embankments are the Cikupa river embankment in Jatimulya Ward, Cilodong Sub-district; the Laya river embankment in Tugu Ward, Cimanggis Sub-district.

The other two are the Jantung river embankment in Sukmajaya Ward, Sukmajaya Sub-district, and the Danau Boas Woisiri embankment in the Brimob Headquarters Complex area, Kelapa Dua, Tugu Ward, Cimanggis Sub-district.

According to Deni, the cause of the embankment collapse was high water pressure due to extreme rainfall. This caused the soil to erode and the retaining walls to be unable to withstand the flow of water.

He said that the collapse of the four embankments in Depok City resulted in flooding of settlements and vehicle damage.

In Mekarsari Ward, Cimanggis Sub-district, 3,500 households were affected by the flood, covering RT 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 013, and 014.

Meanwhile, in RW 15 and RW 16 of Tugu Ward, Cimanggis Sub-district, more than 500 households were affected. In RW 09 of Pasir Gunung Selatan Ward, Cimanggis Sub-district, 10 households.

“RT 009 RW in Sukmajaya Ward, 3 households. RW 06 in Cilodong Ward, Cilodong Sub-district, 110 households, and RT 003 RW 18 in Cilangkap Ward, Tapos Sub-district, 40 households,” he said.

Currently, he added, emergency handling is being carried out in the affected locations by the Depok City Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR).

The Head of the Water Resources Division of the Depok City PUPR Department, Rizwan Nurahim, said that 154 water task forces from the PUPR Department are intensively repairing the collapsed embankments in various areas due to high-intensity rain.

“Emergency handling involves heavy equipment, installation of sandbags/berms, and structural reinforcement to prevent follow-up flooding, with a target of quick recovery,” he concluded.
