Four Regencies in Bali Affected by Drought

The Bali Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reported that the impact of extreme drought is spreading across the province during the 2026 dry season. At least several areas in four regencies are severely affected by the drought.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Control Unit of the Bali Provincial BPBD, I Wayan Suryawan, stated that the conditions of the 2026 dry season require collective attention. He explained that the Bali Provincial BPBD has recorded 529 households (KK) affected by drought, spread across four regencies.

The four affected regencies are Buleleng, Jembrana, Karangasem, and Klungkung. “Drought has been recorded in four regencies,” he said in a written statement on Thursday night.

Based on weather developments and information from the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), the 2026 dry season is expected to be longer, drier, and with relatively higher temperatures compared to normal conditions in several areas. “From a disaster perspective, these conditions increase the potential for drought, forest and land fires, as well as fires in residential areas and waste management sites,” said Suryawan.

“Therefore, the Bali Provincial BPBD, together with district and city governments, continues to increase monitoring and preparedness, especially in areas with the potential to be affected by drought and fire,” he added.

Regarding the details of the drought cases, he explained that the impact includes 529 households in Bali, with incidents occurring between 11 April and 3 September 2026, involving 15 villages or sub-districts. In Buleleng Regency, the affected areas include Sinabun, Madenan, and Menyali villages. In Jembrana Regency, the affected areas include Pendem, Asahduren, Pergung, Bale Agung, Berangbang, Yeh Embang Kauh, Tukadaya, and Manistutu.

In Karangasem Regency, the affected areas are Baturinggit, Tianyar Timur, and Tianyar villages. Meanwhile, in Klungkung Regency, Pejukutan village is affected.

Regarding agricultural land drought, the recorded affected area includes 79.95 hectares in Jembrana and 108.60 hectares in Buleleng. In addition to the land already affected, 694.06 hectares out of a total of 64,704 hectares of paddy fields in Bali are at risk of experiencing drought.

As for clean water distribution up to 3 September 2026, a total of 823,200 litres have been distributed. This includes 450,200 litres in Jembrana, 270,000 litres in Buleleng, 65,000 litres in Karangasem, and 38,000 litres in Klungkung.

Suryawan stated that moving forward, strengthening preparedness should be directed towards the availability and protection of water sources, as well as increasing the capacity of water storage and distribution infrastructure. “Strengthening the monitoring system and cross-sector coordination in areas with potential impacts is essential. Additionally, stop burning waste indiscriminately or without supervision,” he concluded.
