Four Questioned Over Discovery of Abandoned Baby in Semin, Gunungkidul

Police are still investigating who abandoned a baby boy in Kemejing I, Kemejing, Semin, Gunungkidul. Officers have so far taken statements from four witnesses.

“The investigation is ongoing; for now, we have examined four witnesses,” said Semin Police Chief AKP Aris Sugiyanto when contacted on Tuesday (4/8/2026).

Regarding the identity of the four witnesses, Aris stated they were individuals who were aware of the baby’s discovery on Monday (3/8/2026). “The four people are residents from around the location where the baby was found,” he said.

Aris further disclosed that the baby boy is no longer at the Semin I Community Health Centre. According to Aris, the infant has been entrusted to the Karangmojo area. “We have placed the baby in the care of the Social Services and accompanied the handover to the Almira Foundation in Srimpi, Karangmojo, Gunungkidul,” he said.

It was previously reported that residents of Kemejing I were shocked by the discovery of a baby boy behind a resident’s house. The infant was immediately taken to the Semin I Community Health Centre for further treatment.

Semin Police Chief AKP Wasdiyanto explained that the incident began when Sutinem (44), a resident of Kemejing I, was about to cook and sweep the kitchen on Monday (3/8/2026) at 5.30 a.m. WIB. Upon reaching the kitchen, Sutinem heard the sound of a baby crying. “The witness immediately informed the neighbourhood chief,” he said.

Subsequently, the neighbourhood chief and Sutinem searched for the source of the crying. The sound grew louder when they reached the bushes behind the house. “It turned out there was a brown bag in the bushes. When they opened it, they found a baby boy wrapped in a jacket,” he said. The baby was found in a healthy condition.
