Four people stabbed to death in Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Four men were stabbed to death in separate incidents in the city and surrounding areas Saturday night while Jakartans were celebrating friendship and goodwill with the opening of the 19th SEA Games.
Three of the four bodies were identified as Yana Mulyana, 16, Hendra, 28 and Hariyanto alias Henky, 27. The other victim, believed to be 15 years old, was unidentified, an official at the Cipto Mangunkusomo General Hospital's morgue said yesterday.
Yana Mulyana, a siomay (a steamed meat dumpling) trader, was stabbed to death by an unidentified man after watching a film at a mobile cinema in Pinang Ranti subdistrict in East Jakarta about 9:30 p.m, Mulyana's bother-in-law, Cece, said.
Cece said Mulyana, who rented a house on Jl. Pinang Ranti in Makasar district, was about to go to a nearby market to buy vegetables and ingredients to make the siomay after watching the film.
"Witnesses told me, however, that Mulyana was stabbed because he refused to give money to a hoodlum," Cece told The Jakarta Post at the morgue yesterday.
He said the hoodlum stabbed Mulyana in the stomach.
Local residents tried to help Mulyana but he died on the way to hospital, he said.
Mulyana will be buried in his hometown in Kuningan, West Java today.
The second victim Hariyanto was stabbed in the chest in a brawl among hoodlums on Jl. Kepanduan, Penjaringan district, in North Jakarta.
An officer at Penjaringan Police subprecinct said he was found dead close to his home.
The other victim, Hendra, was found dead in an area near the University of Indonesia in Depok about 12:30 a.m, a Depok police officer said.
He said Hendra was found with stab wounds to his neck and body. Police are still investigating the case.
The unknown body was found with stab wounds to his stomach in Gambir district, Central Jakarta, about 2 a.m yesterday. (jun)
