Joint security forces have recaptured four of six detainees who escaped from a Pekanbaru District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) prisoner transport vehicle whilst en route to trial at the Pekanbaru District Court (PN), Riau Province.

Head of Intelligence at Kejari Pekanbaru, Mey Ziko, confirmed the latest developments. According to him, the joint team is still working in the field to hunt the two detainees who have not yet been caught.

“Two remain at large,” said Mey Ziko when contacted in Pekanbaru on Thursday evening.

As of now, Mey Ziko has not disclosed the complete chronology or the identities of the escaped detainees. He stated that the operation is still underway. “One moment, we are still in the field,” he stressed.

Based on gathered information, the escape occurred on Thursday afternoon (11/6). The detainees were being transported to attend a trial at the Pekanbaru District Court. The prisoner bus became stuck in a traffic jam at the intersection of Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani and Jalan KH Ahmad Dahlan, not far from the court. Amidst the situation, six detainees managed to exit the prisoner transport vehicle before dispersing from the location.

“Two people have already been rearrested and are currently secured in the Pekanbaru District Court holding cell,” said an eyewitness at the scene.
