Police have named four people as suspects in connection with a riot during a demonstration in front of the Grahadi State Building in Surabaya, East Java. The four are accused of damaging facilities and attacking officers. Surabaya Police Chief Commissioner Luthfie Sulistiawan stated on Saturday (27/6/2026) that police had initially detained 24 people on Friday evening. Following further investigation, including examining data from their mobile phones, four individuals—identified as MA, ARF, NB, and DSD—were named as suspects. “These four people have been named as suspects for damaging property and attacking officers. They face a maximum sentence of five years in prison, so we have detained them,” he said. Police have also released 14 other individuals who were previously detained. According to Luthfie, investigators have not yet found sufficient evidence to charge them with a criminal offence. “For these 14, we have temporarily released them because, in terms of evidence, we are still waiting for the results of the analysis of their communication devices. For now, there are no criminal elements we can apply to fulfil the criminal charges,” he explained.
