Four more killed in exodus

CIREBON, West Java: Four more people died on Tuesday along the north coast route of West Java during the mass exodus ahead of Idul Fitri, bringing the death toll to 15 since Saturday.

In the latest fatalities along the cross-Java route, three were motorcyclists, who were all killed in traffic accidents on the way to their respective hometowns.

The fourth was a man who was mobbed to death after his motorcycle struck a three-wheel pedicab in Suranenggala village of Kapetakan district. Police said the accident sparked anger among local residents, who then took the law into their own hands. Police said the victim, identified as Sumari, 27, died of severe blood loss.

Meanwhile, two other traffic accidents occurred in Cirebon, killing Supriyanto, 24, and a man who has not yet been identified.

On the same day in the village of Ciasem in Subang, Irnazwen, 34, was killed when his car collided head-on with a Safari Darma Raya public bus. -- JP
