REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NAGAN RAYA – The flood victims in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang Sub-district, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province have not yet enjoyed electricity since the area was hit by floods at the end of November 2025.

“Not only after the flood, entering the 17th day of the holy month of Ramadan, we, along with the community, break fast and have sahur in darkness. There is only minimal lighting available,” said Samsuardi, a resident of Beutong Ateuh Banggalang, Nagan Raya, Aceh, on Friday night (6 March 2026).

He said that until now hundreds of residents displaced in emergency tents are forced to break fast and sahur using candles and traditional lighting or lampu panyet (lamp lit with fire).

Samsuardi said lighting is a very important facility in the holy month of Ramadan, especially at iftar and sahur. In addition, lighting is needed for the community to conduct worship more reverently.

“Imagine how the people breaking fast and sahur in total darkness in the refugee tents fare, especially those living far from neighbours,” he said.
