Four Military Suspects in Acid Terror Case Charged Under Assault Provisions
TNI headquarters announced four soldiers who have been designated as suspects in the case related to the acid splashing against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. The four soldiers, previously secured by the TNI Military Police Centre, are charged with suspected violations of assault provisions. There are four soldiers previously secured by the TNI Military Police Centre in connection with the incident that occurred in mid-March. “The four perpetrators have been designated as suspects and have been undergoing detention at the military detention facility (Maximum Security) of the Jakarta Military Region Command Guntur since 18 March 2026,” stated TNI’s Centre for Communication and Information, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, in a statement received on Tuesday night (31/3). “The provision applied to the suspects is the assault provision,” he added. Previously, the Military Police secured four TNI members from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) related to the acid terror splashing case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, which occurred on 12 March 2026. The four secured TNI members are First Lieutenant SL, Captain NDP, First Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES. In his statement on Tuesday night, Aulia said that Puspom TNI investigators will also endeavour to obtain a statement from Andrie Yunus as the victim witness. The first attempt was made on 19 March. However, Aulia said that at that time, “The doctor had not permitted it due to health reasons.” Subsequently, on 25 March 2026, Puspom TNI received a letter from the Head of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) stating that victim witness Andrie Yunus is now under LPSK protection. On that basis, Aulia said Puspom TNI has sent a letter to the LPSK Head regarding the request to obtain a statement from Andrie Yunus as the victim witness. He also assured that TNI will carry out law enforcement openly and accountably. “TNI is committed to conducting the law enforcement process openly, professionally, and accountably,” he said. Separately, today, the acid terror incident against Andrie Yunus, who is also KontraS Deputy Coordinator, was again specifically discussed in the General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) at DPR Commission III. In the meeting’s conclusion, Commission III urged the authorities to uncover the intellectual actors. Today is the third meeting related to the acid terror case. In this third follow-up meeting, the PDIP and Democrat factions supported the government in forming a joint fact-finding team (TGPF) to thoroughly investigate the acid terror case against Andrie. Additionally, Commission III DPR member from the Golkar Faction, retired Inspector General of Police Rikwanto, assessed that the transfer of the case from the police to Puspom TNI remains contradictory. However, he hopes all parties continue to follow the case developments. “I hope KontraS and the Metro Police prepare research results and developments, to be used whenever needed, to clarify what happened,” said Rikwanto. Commission III DPR member from the PDIP Faction, Mercy Barends, views the acid terror case against Andrie as a serious human rights violation. Therefore, she questioned the transfer of the case to Puspom TNI. “On what basis was it then transferred? Whereas this attack case is truly a serious criminal act and a serious human rights violation,” Mercy stated. PDIP, Mercy continued, views the law enforcement of Andrie’s case as a form of democracy enforcement. Because, according to her, democracy must not tolerate terror. “We must not lose. And what we discuss today represents our support for Andrie Yunus,” she said.
