Four Messages from Haedar Nashir for Lazismu
Muhammadiyah Central Board Chairman Prof Haedar Nashir delivered four important messages to Lazismu at the 24th Anniversary Reception themed ‘Integration Strengthens Impact’ on Wednesday (29/7/2026). He stressed the importance of organisational consolidation, expanding the collection of zakat, infak, and sedekah (ZIS), equitable distribution of funds, and strengthening collaboration so that Lazismu becomes more professional and provides wider benefits.
Haedar said that to become an integrated and impactful force, his first message was to continue consolidating the Lazismu organisation throughout the country and within the PCIM network to truly become an institution that organises ZIS activities more solidly. He emphasised that the goal of integration is to create solidity within Lazismu’s organisational system.
“Of course, the consolidation dimension must also cover various aspects so that it truly represents a unified step that strengthens the existence and role of Lazismu as an institution carrying out ZIS functions on behalf of the central leadership,” Haedar said while delivering his message online at the 24th Lazismu Anniversary Reception.
Secondly, Haedar stated that the dynamism of increasingly progressive and widespread measures, not only in collecting ZIS funds internally within the Muhammadiyah organisation or among the extended family of Muhammadiyah members, but also within the wider Muslim community, necessitates proactive, sympathetic, and trust-building measures from the broader public. In this way, the community will be willing to entrust their ZIS to Lazismu within the beloved organisation.
Furthermore, he said that the activity of distributing and utilising the ZIS funds that have been collected within the organisation also needs to be continuously integrated in a more unified manner. The programme should not only be based on submitted proposals, but also on mapping which congregations, institutions, and communities require ZIS distribution from Lazismu.
“So that there is a process of equity and justice in its use and utilisation. There should be no places, communities, congregations, or institutions that are in great need but have not been reached by ZIS funds. I am sure this step has been taken, but we hope it can be more organised, more unified, and more integrated, as per the theme of this anniversary,” Haedar said.
Lastly, the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board advised strengthening networks or collaboration with various parties to further increase the collection of ZIS funds in a more accumulative, broader, and larger manner. Collaboration with the spirit of ‘ta’âwanû ’alal-birri wat-taqwâ wa lâ ta’âwanû ’alal-itsmi wal-’udwâni wattaqullâh, innallâha syadîdul-’iqâb’ must become the strength and role of Lazismu with various parties that have been pioneered but need to be expanded further.
