Four men caught with pen guns

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Police detectives seized this week a revolver, three pen guns and bullets following the arrest of four people in two separate incidents.

City police chief of detectives Col. Alex Bambang Riatmodjo identified on Friday the first two suspects as businessman Turawan, 28, and laborer Saman, 28. Both come from the same neighborhood in Nagrak village in Gunung Putri, Bogor.

"They were apprehended on Monday evening loitering around Mal Pondok Indah in South Jakarta, with a revolver and two bullets. They were obviously there to rob people. They bought the revolver in Bandung, West Java," Alex said at Jakarta Police.

The other two suspects, whose names Alex declined to reveal, were arrested on Wednesday night on Jl. Otista in East Jakarta, after allegedly attempting to sell three pen guns to undercover cops, for Rp 2 million (US$285) each.

"One of the two bought the pen guns in the Senayan area for Rp 210,000, and claims to be a staff member of the secretary-general of the Indonesian Shooting Association (Perbakin). They said they obtained about 15 bullets, from what was left after Perbakin training sessions. They were trying to cheat the cops, who immediately arrested the men." (ylt)
