Four lead in RI women's golf event

KARAWACI, Banten: National golfer Juriah carded a five-over 77 in Tuesday's opening round of the 27th Indonesia Ladies Amateur Open for a four-way tie atop the leaderboard.

The 23-year-old from Jakarta, one of the country's hopefuls for the Southeast Asian Games in November, is tied with Agnes Retno Sudjasmin of Damai Indah Golf Club and Filipinos Deborah Marie De Villa and Anna Imelda Tanpico.

The sweltering conditions at the Imperial Golf Club seemed to affect the performance of several golfers. Veteran Jamilah of Banten, the winner of last week's West Java Amateur Open, and runner-up Heng Su-Ann of Singapore faltered, carding rounds of 80 and 79 respectively.

Other national team golfers, Lidya Ivana Jaya and Risti Yuanda Putri, were plagued by putting problems, with rounds of 78 and 84.

"I always made two putts and the results weren't perfect," Lidya said.

The tournament continues through Friday. (004)
