A limited cyberattack has caused disruptions to the operations of four banks in the country, namely Bank Nasional Iran, Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat Iran, and Bank Tosee Saderat.

In a statement quoted by the Iranian state news agency, IRNA, on Sunday (14/6), the Iranian Banking Coordination Council stated that technical teams immediately implemented necessary preventive and protective measures after detecting signs of unusual activity.

“The technical teams immediately implemented the necessary preventive and protective measures to protect customer data and the nation’s banking infrastructure after identifying signs of unusual activity,” the council stated.

According to the council, the results of technical investigations showed that the disruption was caused by a limited cyberattack targeting the shared communication infrastructure used by the four banks.

“Detailed technical investigations show that this disruption was caused by a limited cyberattack on the shared communication infrastructure belonging to the four banks. Fortunately, there was no unauthorised access to customer information and no data was deleted,” the statement read.

The Iranian Banking Coordination Council emphasised that the entire infrastructure system is now under the control of technical experts. Furthermore, system recovery and security strengthening operations are ongoing to ensure that services return to normal and remain secure.
