North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution has confirmed that four regional road sections in the province, constructed under the 2025 Presidential Instruction (Inpres) for regional roads, were inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto. According to Bobby, the four work packages have a total length of 7.10 kilometres and form part of a national infrastructure development programme spread across 37 provinces. “For the North Sumatra region, four Inpres road packages for the 2025 fiscal year with a total road length reaching 7.10 kilometres were inaugurated by the President,” Bobby said in Medan on Wednesday (24/6). He explained that the inauguration was part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 11 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Regional Road Connectivity Improvement to Support Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency. Nationally, the regional road development inaugurated by President Prabowo reached 1,151 kilometres across 37 provinces. In North Sumatra, the work packages were carried out under a single-year contract scheme. “The Sirongit–Lancang road in Toba Regency is 1.7 kilometres long, and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Tebing Tinggi City is 2.28 kilometres,” Bobby detailed. Bobby also discussed plans for infrastructure development under central government authority in North Sumatra with the Head of the North Sumatra National Road Implementation Centre from the Ministry of Public Works, Hardy Siahaan. He noted that while many national road sections in North Sumatra are in good condition, several still require attention. The total length of national roads in the province is approximately 2,600 kilometres. “In some areas, the road conditions really need attention. With this Inpres road programme, communities, especially in agricultural areas or food production centres, are greatly assisted,” he stated. He assessed that the regional road development would have a direct impact on economic activity, particularly in agricultural regions. Improved access is expected to facilitate the transport of harvests from production centres to markets or distribution hubs. “Previously, there were difficulties in transporting harvests, but now it has become easy and transport costs will certainly be lower. We should be grateful to the President,” Bobby remarked. Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto conveyed that the development of regional road infrastructure is important to facilitate the mobility of agricultural, plantation, and fishery products, as well as various community goods from villages to markets and industrial areas. Prabowo stressed that achieving food and energy self-sufficiency depends not only on production aspects but also requires adequate distribution networks. “Food self-sufficiency is not just about seeds, fertilisers, and irrigation. Energy self-sufficiency is not just about energy. It is also the result of a smooth and good distribution network. With the completion of these roads, I urge local governments to maintain the infrastructure properly,” Prabowo stated in a virtual address from Tengku Rizal Nurdin Hall, the Governor’s official residence, on Tuesday (23/6). The inauguration of the four Inpres road sections in North Sumatra is expected to strengthen inter-regional connectivity, reduce logistical barriers, and support community activities in food production areas.
