Four Hunting Dogs Die in Car After Mauling Bogor Boy to Death
A nine-year-old boy in Jasinga District, Bogor, West Java, has died after being attacked by four wild boar hunting dogs. The four dogs later died inside a car after mauling the child.
“Regarding the condition of the dogs, when they mauled the victim, they were secured and then placed inside a car. As the dogs were in the car, possibly the engine was not switched on, causing the death of the dogs,” said Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at Bogor Police, AKP Silfi Adi Putri, on Wednesday (10/6/2026).
The four dogs are believed to have died from a lack of oxygen inside the vehicle. The dogs were placed in the car following the attack on the victim. “The information suggests they were stored inside the car and tied up, the car was sealed, so there was no oxygen inside. Yes, all four dogs died,” Silfi stated.
Police have taken samples from the dogs for examination at the National Police Forensic Laboratory. The police are coordinating with the Bogor Regency Livestock and Fisheries Agency to conduct tracing, sterilisation, and rabies testing on hundreds of animals linked to this case.
The Bogor Police have named Y as a suspect in connection with the boy’s death. The dog owner faces a maximum prison sentence of five years. “The criminal penalty threat is a maximum of 5 years’ imprisonment and/or a maximum category V fine and/or a maximum 5 months’ imprisonment and/or a maximum category II fine,” said Silfi.
Police are still questioning Y intensively. Y, who is from Jakarta, is being charged under multiple articles. “Articles 474 and 336 of the Criminal Code; Article 474 concerns criminal acts where a person, due to their negligence, causes the death of another person, and/or Article 336 concerns any person who fails to prevent an animal under their care from attacking a person or another animal,” she explained.
Dwi Wiyanto of the Bogor Police Criminal Investigation Unit stated that investigations revealed a wild boar hunt using dogs was occurring at the time. The victim and a friend, who were fishing at the time, were attacked by the pack of hunting dogs. “One child managed to survive, whilst the other child tragically died after being bitten by the dogs engaged in the hunting activity,” he explained.
