Four houses in Lantena Village, Kewapante District, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), were severely damaged by strong winds on Monday, 9 March 2026. The incident occurred when heavy rain accompanied by strong winds struck the area from midday until evening.

A resident of Lantena Village, Frit Bela, stated that heavy rain with strong winds from the direction of the South Coast hit the village at approximately 1:40 pm Wita time. As a result, two residential houses sustained damage.

One of the affected homes belonged to a woman named Michaela. Her house’s roof was lifted and separated from the main structure due to the force of the wind.

“Beams and corrugated sheets from parts of the house were lifted,” Frit said when contacted on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Frit stated that in addition to Michaela’s house, another uninhabited residential house also suffered severe damage, being completely flattened to the ground due to the onslaught of wind and rain.

According to Frit, strong winds occurred again in the evening, from approximately 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wita time. This incident caused two additional houses to suffer severe damage.

“Those houses belonged to Flori Melkiades and Domitila. The houses were completely flattened, with roofs separated from their structures,” he added.

When the incident occurred, residents panicked and ran to find safe shelter from the strong winds and rain.

“They took shelter at their neighbours’ houses,” he concluded.

Based on photographs received, the conditions surrounding the incident area appeared chaotic due to the damage sustained.
