Four houses in Lebak, Banten heavily damaged by landslide as heavy rain lashes the area
Lebak Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said four houses were severely damaged by a landslide in Tambakbaya Village, Cibadak District, Lebak Regency, with residents evacuated to safe locations. BPBD head Sukanta said heavy rainfall in recent days in Cibadak has caused the four houses to suffer heavy damage; the homes are located on the Ciujung River bank which experienced a landslide. ‘We urge residents to heighten awareness of landslide risk as heavy rainfall continues to rise,’ he said. Cibadak Sub-district head Apip Saepudin said four houses were severely damaged and three households affected, but there were no fatalities. The evacuees were moved to safe places as heavy rain persisted and there were concerns of further landslides. Saepudin, a Tambakbaya resident, said his house was severely damaged and must be demolished; he fears it could collapse in a subsequent landslide given the ongoing rainfall. ‘We, along with three other heads of families, and 25 people, evacuated to the homes of parents and relatives,’ he said.
