Four-Hour Meeting with Ministers and SOE CEOs, Prabowo Urges Reduction in Leaks
The government is beginning to direct a new focus in the national food security agenda. After successfully achieving rice self-sufficiency, President Prabowo Subianto is now promoting the acceleration of protein self-sufficiency as the next step to strengthen Indonesia’s food independence.
This push for protein self-sufficiency represents the subsequent phase in the government’s grand strategy to build national food resilience, which does not rely solely on carbohydrates but also strengthens the overall nutritional quality of the population.
This was conveyed by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi after attending the President’s briefing during the Government Working Meeting with the Red and White Cabinet, ministry/institution echelon I officials, and SOE directors at the State Palace on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
“We must maintain and enhance our food self-sufficiency, because success has only been achieved in the rice sector so far. We want to achieve success in food commodities beyond rice, including protein,” said Prasetyo Hadi, quoted on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
He explained that marine-based protein sources are one of the government’s main focuses moving forward. According to him, Indonesia’s maritime sector has enormous potential that needs to be optimised to support the nutritional needs of the population.
“Protein, one of which is fish-based, underscores the importance of the government’s priority programmes in the maritime and ocean sectors,” he stated.
Prasetyo also revealed that President Prabowo directly led the four-hour working meeting, involving all executive elements up to the highest levels of bureaucracy.
He noted that the forum served as an opportunity for evaluation as well as strengthening the direction of government policies after 1.5 years in operation.
“Well, today he provided directions, while also expressing thanks to all executive and government elements because over the past 1.5 years, many government programmes led by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have shown quite significant results. Of course, not all the problems we face have been resolved yet,” he said.
The President also emphasised the importance of improving bureaucratic performance to be faster, more efficient, and have a real impact on the public through productive work, efficiency, and reducing leaks.
“He considers it important to provide a briefing, convey thanks, while also motivating and explaining that we must work together more diligently, faster, more productively, more efficiently, reduce leaks, and so on,” he said.
