Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced plans to imminently connect four hotels in the Bundaran HI area—Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin Oriental, and Hotel Kempinski—to an MRT station via underground pedestrian passages.

“Surely, anyone who has visited Singapore has wondered when Jakarta will have underground pathways like that? We will begin very soon. In fact, construction has already begun, connecting Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin Oriental, and Hotel Kempinski underground with direct access to the MRT,” Pramono stated in South Jakarta on Thursday, 26 February.

The underground connection will eliminate the need for the public to walk above ground or through Bundaran HI itself. The initiative is expected to improve the overall organisation and management of the Bundaran HI area.

However, Pramono could not provide details regarding construction costs or the timeline for opening the underground passage. He emphasised that the development is being undertaken as part of positioning Jakarta as a global city, particularly following Law Number 2 of 2024.

“Although Jakarta remains the capital to this day, as a global city under my leadership, Jakarta previously ranked 74th globally, and now, praise be to God, we’ve improved to 71st,” Pramono said.

He expressed optimism that Jakarta will continue to rise in international rankings. He noted that Jakarta’s public transportation system now rivals that of Manila, Hanoi, and other major cities.

Pramono emphasised that this transformation is the result of effective teamwork, particularly within the Jakarta City Administration. He stressed that proper coordination and orchestration across government institutions will drive Jakarta’s continued development and transformation.
