Four held for faking Mahathir's signature

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysian police have arrested four men
who faked documents and forged the signature of Prime Minister
Mahathir Mohamad to bring in thousands of illegal foreign
workers, a report said on Sunday.

The four are said to have duped several bosses into parting
with large sums on the pretext of supplying legal foreign
employees, the Sun newspaper said.

Police Superintendent Adnan Shahbudin was quoted as saying the
four were detained last week. He said they told bosses the
government had appointed them to provide foreign labor.

The paper said police recovered a stack of documents, headed
notepaper which purportedly came from the prime minister's
department and rubber stamps and seals. The group reportedly
brought in an average of 500 workers a month over the past two
years.
