Palembang — Four Hajj pilgrims from the Palembang debarkation area have been reported to have passed away in Saudi Arabia during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage series. The Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for South Sumatra Province, M. Arkan Nurwahiddin, stated in Palembang on Tuesday that the four deceased pilgrims included three individuals from South Sumatra and one from Bangka Belitung. Meanwhile, the return of the first group from the Palembang debarkation proceeded smoothly, comprising a total of 443 individuals, including 438 pilgrims and officials. Specifically, 437 pilgrims originated from East OKU, one from Banyuasin, alongside one regional Hajj officer (PHD) and four group officials who accompanied the group. The group returned in the same condition as when they departed from their home regions, with no reduction in the number of pilgrims during the departure and return process. ‘Alhamdulillah, this group has returned intact, just as they departed,’ he said.
